Physical activity can bring health benefits including elevated mood and reduced stress. Good physical health leaves a personal feeling better in the long term. As the American Heart Association puts it, "Physical activity boosts mental wellness. Regular physical activity can relieve tension, anxiety, depression and anger."

Mental illnesses are common in the United States. Nearly one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness (52.9 million in 2020), and one in twenty live with serious mental illness. Nearly every person in this country is touched in some way by Mental Health and for decades the stigma of Mental Illness has prevented people from seeking the help they need.

To keep up with the community's growing need, Pathway is continually strengthening its peer support programming. The focus of our new Midwest Mental Wellness Center is the focus on wellness through the eight dimensions of wellness and an increase in peer support services. This new building provides include six private counseling rooms, classroom space for wellness workshops and peer support groups, and a spacious area for our Clubhouse program to accommodate up to 250 individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness per day.

Join us during the Month of May, for our annual Virtual 50K. Physical activity doesn't need to be complicated. Something as simple as a daily brisk walk can help you live a healthier life. Take the challenge for one mile a day either walking, running, or biking is a great way to begin a routine that will ultimately leave you happier and healthier.

Michele Hayden is a popular artist around Pathway To Hope! The original artist to our Share the Hope coloring book and a regular donor to the Night of Hope Silent Auction, she responded this year to the special request for the 2023 Walk for Wellness t-shirt.

Michele says, "I have always been interested in arts and crafts, but mostly drawing. My art is colorful web where solid shapes and varied lines interact. I love to keep or have an atmosphere of exploration of imagination. Finding and expressing through all different various art media has been a powerful source of personal expression and emotional release. I love to sit with a pencil & and black sharpie in my hand. I never know what is going to flow from my fingertips bold, bright colors to just plain black & white. I am always inspired by each and every line my hand creates while it runs across the paper. I was super excited to be able to create this year's 2023 Walk for Wellness t-shirt for Pathway To Hope 50k. Since we know that all both physical health and mental health starts in the brain - that's became the feature for this project.

You can often find Michele's art at Sweet Tee's Coffee Shop in Olathe, KS
